Tri-County Announces New Data Dashboard for Greater Lansing

The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) has launched a new data dashboard — MI Capital Region — to provide the public and community leaders with the latest economic, demographic, and workforce data for the area. MI Capital Region visually and statistically analyzes data trends of key metrics in the Greater Lansing area, including industry, labor and employment, wages and income, education, demographics and population, and equity and social patterns such as business ownership, crime, and housing. Tri-County is constantly exploring and creating new tools that help our region keep a pulse on how we're moving the needle. This new dashboard reflects our commitment to providing reliable data and our goal to be the region's go-to source for your data needs. We recognize that up-to-date, accurate, and quality data helps our community leaders — including elected officials, local planners, and other decision makers — and the public to make informed decisions and opinions about the Greater Lansing community and what we need to thrive.

MI Capital Region allows visitors to customize searches and dive deeply into the latest datasets that tell you what you want to know. The data tells the story of our tri-county region and its three counties (Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham), as well as other geographies like the Lansing Metro area, Lansing Region Labor Shed, and U.S. Midwest Region. All available data can even be exported as a PNG image, PDF document, or Excel spreadsheet. Our region can use this dashboard to promote our communities to external companies and site selectors, guide public policy, and enhance our workforce.

The first iteration of MI Capital Region was developed a decade ago in support of the Greater Lansing Regional Prosperity Initiative (GLRPI) to provide stakeholders a foundation for measuring success, opportunities, and assets in the region. The dashboard tracked critical economic, educational, workforce, health, environmental, and social data metrics to empower communities and regional partners to pursue strategic change together. Following the sunset of the State of Michigan's Regional Prosperity Initiative, Tri-County continued to maintain the dashboard. Now, we've partnered with Headlight Data to develop this new, expanded dashboard of the same name.

Headlight Data specializes in creating custom-designed portals that aggregate workforce, economic, and demographic data into one central website. Headlight™ is a comprehensive data system available to the economic and workforce development industry that delivers online data tools that help communities streamline data retrieval.
