MACC Public Arts Initiative Set to Invest Nearly $12,000 in the Region
The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and Greater Lansing Regional Committee for Stormwater Management (GLRC) have partnered with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing to release a Call for Artists for the “ArtStorm 2025” grant project.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Michigan Arts and Culture Council has provided funding for the public arts initiative to place murals around storm drains or catch basins throughout Greater Lansing. The murals will contain educational messages like “only rain goes down the drain” to increase understanding of how to protect our local waterways. ArtStorm 2025 murals will be placed in GLRC’s 17 member communities as part of the group’s ongoing efforts to improve watershed health.
All local artists are encouraged to view the Call for Artists and submit work for the educational public arts initiative. Submissions will be open until April 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Each chosen artist or artist team will be compensated $500 for each storm drain mural completed with paint provided.
A steering committee will meet and select artists the week of May 5th. Artists must complete the storm drain murals from May 12th to July 31st, 2025. The grant project, which includes a video showcasing the murals, will be completed by October 1st, 2025.
