About the Event
The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) is hosting a training session with the Groundwater Management Board and the Greater Lansing Regional Committee for Stormwater Management on best management practices (BMPs) for road salt application during winter storm events.
This training, associated with the Minnesota Smart Salting program, will help improve operator effectiveness and reduce chloride pollution while keeping roads safe. Topics covered include the environmental impacts of chloride, equipment calibration, weather condition information, application rates, BMPS for plowing and physical removal, and storing materials. The hope is that this training will help prevent chloride contamination in lakes, rivers, streams, and groundwater sources.
Led by Environmental Planners Amanda Hathaway Frattarelli and Lauren Schnoebelen, this session will target salt and snow removal on roads and highways. Similar practices can be applied to parking lots and sidewalks. This session will be held in two parts, with a break in between for a…
